About Alan
Alan Culler says he “made every possible mistake imaginable” in his career. Now he’s a writer, sharing the wisdom accumulated over a career working helping businesses change, in the hopes that maybe someone “might learn from my mistakes.” Alan is an optimist.
Alan’s career has been unusual. His undergraduate degree is in theatre. There he learned to observe people in order to portray them as an actor. That skill turned out to be useful later as he became an organizational change consultant.
Alan went to work as a booking agent for celebrity speakers. He learned to sell and to talk with powerful people, who it “turned out are just like the rest of us.”
He decided to become a consultant and went to the London Business School. He worked for five firms, Harbridge House, Forum Corporation HRI, Gemini Consulting, and Katzenbach Partners. He also was self-employed for twenty-three years, started a partnership, worked as an independent, and started a confederation of independent consultants.
Now Alan has retired to write stories and songs. Alan lives in New Jersey with his wife Billie and dog, Pip. They take as much opportunity as they can to see our five children and five grandchildren.
